There’s plenty to do this week when Tampa Theatre’s Summer Classics Series returns and St. Petersburg celebrates Pride Month

Summer Classics Series: The Wizard of Oz: The 29th annual Summer Classics movie series was canceled because of COVID-19. So, to make the 30th annual festival extra special, this year’s films will be shown more than once, giving fans more opportunities to see them. Theater capacity also will be limited. The series kicks off with The Wizard of Oz. $10, $7 members; $13, $10 members (silent films). 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday. Tampa Theatre, 711 N Franklin St. 813-274-8286.

Secrets of the Zoo: Go behind the scenes with the stars of NatGeo Wild’s Secrets of the Zoo: Tampa and learn about the animals that live at ZooTampa and ZooTampa’s efforts to save species around the world. $125, $100 members. 8-10 a.m. Saturday. Pride Month Events: To commemorate the Stonewall riots, and to recognize the impact LGBTQ people have had on the world, St. Petersburg has designated June as Pride Month. Pride events this week include:

  • Pride Flag Raising: Join city officials as they welcome the St. Pete Pride celebration. Free. 10 a.m. Tuesday. St. Petersburg City Hall, 175 Fifth St. N.
  • PrideFest Kickoff Reception: Put your feet in the sand and enjoy drink specials and limited free appetizers. $10. 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Sirata Beach Resort, 5300 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. 727-363-5100.
  • Pride Shabbat 2021: Join Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg and celebrate the start of Pride Month on the beach. Bring a picnic and enjoy beach ball games, drinks, a signature cocktail and an icy sweet. Everyone gets a swag bag. No previous experience or knowledge of Jewish practice required. Free. 5:30-8 p.m. Friday. Upham Beach, Gulf Boulevard and 68th Street, St. Pete Beach. 727-381-4900.
  • Rainbow: The first in-person opening since March 2020 features an exhibit in which 40 LGBTQIA+ artists were assigned a color of the rainbow and created a new work on a supplied circular canvas.   • Pride Run: Lace up your running shoes for a 5K along the waterfront and Diva Dash. A health expo with vendors, exhibits and entertainment follows. $40-$50 (5K), $15 (Diva Dash). 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Vinoy Park, 501 Fifth Ave. NE, St. Petersburg.

Cirque Alcatraz: Cirque Italia takes the audience on a journey through and escape from Alcatraz with aerial acts, stunts, comedy and more. The production is R-rated. No one under age 13 will be admitted. Ages 13 to 17 must be accompanied by someone 21 or older. Seating is limited and socially distanced. $10-$50. 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday-Friday, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Sunday. St. Pete Ocean Sweep Trash Collection Tournament: Scuba divers, boaters and beach lovers are invited to collect trash in the waters and on the beaches and shorelines across St. Petersburg. Prizes will be awarded for most trash collected, most cigarette butts, most face masks, most bottles and containers, most rope and tackle and most anchors. Weigh-in is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at four locations. Each day there will be a socially distanced party with live music from 3 to 6 p.m. at the St. Pete Pier.
